Locations with a high abundance of birds, bats and rodents are favourable for Carpet Pythons. This species is notorious for taking up residence in roof cavities of houses for shelter, warmth and occasionally rodents.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Coastal Carpet Python is a large bodied snake with a very muscular and broad head. They grow to a total length of 4.1 meters, although most individuals only reach a size of 2-3 meters. Carpet Pythons can vary quite significantly in appearance in terms of patterning and colouration. Most individuals are a shade of brown with irregular lighter coloured spots and bands from head to tail tip. Fully striped specimens of this species have been recorded however this is less frequently the case. Juveniles are often a lighter orange or brown however this colouration normally fades as the snake ages.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: After each breeding season pregnant females lay between 7-54 eggs.

It’s important to realise that many species of snake can vary in colour, pattern and size. This often makes it very hard to make a positive identification of the snake. You should always assume that a snake is highly venomous, keep your family and pets at a safe distance and call a Gold Coast snake catcher.
