Local Hope Island Snakes
Though the Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove area is largely developed there are still a range of snake species which persist here. The highly venomous Eastern Brown Snake and Red Bellied Black Snake are frequently relocated by our Hope Island snake catcher as they favour many of the lush gardens and golf course habitats which are available in the area. Other species including the Coastal Carpet Python and Common Tree Snake are also commonly encountered backyard guests and make up a fair percentage of the calls our snake catchers receive locally.
Snakes are generally not fond of human presence however some species do favour residential landscapes which provide plentiful sources of shelter and food. These snakes are prone to travelling indoors and taking up residence within backyards where they occasionally pose as a risk to humans, pets and themselves.
Make sure you familiarise yourself with some of our local native reptiles by viewing our online identification albums.
